I recently tried to release a game but ran into trouble with Steam due to the usage of AI-generated assets. Although I planned to improve these assets before the official release, I wasn’t aware that Steam had issues with such art. Steam informed me that they couldn’t ship my game as it contained AI-generated assets potentially infringing on copyrighted material. Despite my efforts to improve the assets by hand, my game was still rejected. It seems that Steam is cautious about publishing AI-generated content, unlike other platforms that explicitly allow it. I will now explore itch.io for potential publishing options.
