Bluesky struggles to moderate child abuse material in Portuguese

In a concerning report by Nucleo, it was discovered that Bluesky, an alternative social network to X, had over 125 Portuguese-language profiles sharing illegal material related to child sexual exploitation, without proper moderation. Even explicit images of child abuse were not censored, leading to serious concerns. The investigation, conducted by independent researchers Letícia Oliveira and Tatiana Azevedo, also found an increase in the use of specific emojis and symbols to index child sexual abuse material on the platform. Bluesky claims to take this issue seriously and has increased moderation efforts, but gaps still remain in effectively tackling this disturbing content.
