Secret 3D Scans in the French Supreme Court

For the past seven years, the author has been fighting for public access to 3D scans of cultural heritage in French national museums. Despite resistance from organizations like the Rodin Museum, who have refused to share their scans due to fears of competition and trade secrets, the author has successfully secured access to some scans. They contested various arguments brought forth by the museum, such as issues related to competition, counterfeiting, and trade secrecy. The victory in making Rodin Museum’s 3D scans accessible sets a precedent for public access to cultural heritage worldwide. The process involved legal battles, including a case brought to France’s supreme court for administrative justice, the Conseil d’État.
