In a groundbreaking discovery, a hoard of Norman-era silver coins found in southwestern England has become Britain’s most valuable treasure ever, purchased for £4.3 million. Dating back to around 1066-1068, during the Norman Conquest, the coins depict a turning point in English history with King Harold II and William the Conqueror featured. This find is unique as it contains twice as many coins from Harold II’s reign as previously discovered, shedding light on a tumultuous period in English history. These historically significant coins will be displayed at the British Museum before returning to southwest England museums.
