Norwegian mining company, Norge Mining, has uncovered a massive phosphate rock deposit in south-western Norway that could meet the global demand for batteries and solar panels for the next 100 years. The deposit contains up to 70 billion tonnes of phosphate rock, along with other strategic minerals like titanium and vanadium. Phosphorus, a key component in building green technologies, is currently facing supply issues. The European Union, which is heavily dependent on imports of phosphate rock, warned of shortages before the discovery. Norge Mining’s discovery could provide a solution to the supply problem and support the development of a sustainable mineral industry in Norway.
