The focus on sleep regularity, rather than just duration, has been gaining traction in health research. A study of over 60,000 participants found that those with more consistent sleep patterns had a significantly lower risk of all-cause mortality, cancer mortality, and cardiometabolic mortality. This association held true even after adjusting for age, sex, ethnicity, lifestyle, and health factors. Surprisingly, sleep regularity was found to be a stronger predictor of mortality risk than sleep duration. These findings suggest that maintaining consistent sleep-wake timing may be a simple yet effective way to improve overall health and increase longevity.
