Longevity factor klotho enhances cognition in aged nonhuman primates

The decline of cognitive function due to aging and age-related diseases is a significant challenge that requires effective pharmacological interventions. Klotho (KL) is a longevity factor that has been shown to improve cognitive function in mice. This study aimed to determine if low-dose administration of KL could enhance cognition in aged rhesus macaques. The researchers found that KL treatment increased serum KL levels in the macaques and enhanced cognitive performance in tasks that assessed working and spatial memory. These findings suggest that KL may be a potential therapeutic target for cognitive deficits associated with aging.
