U.S. chip revival plan chooses sites

The National Semiconductor Technology Center (NSTC) is making strides in the U.S. CHIPS Act’s $13 billion R&D program, with strategic plans revealed and sites selected for two of three planned facilities. The Albany center in New York will focus on extreme ultraviolet lithography, critical for advanced logic chips, while Silicon Valley will host the design center for chip research and workforce development. The third center, for packaging and prototyping, is still undecided. Despite potential bureaucratic challenges, industry experts see this as a unique opportunity to accelerate semiconductor innovation and expand the industry across various regions in the United States.
