IBM celebrated its 100th birthday in February 2024, marking a century of innovation and leadership in the world of computing and IT. The company’s origins can be traced back to the late 1800s when businesses like typewriters, adding machines, and cash registers emerged to mechanize information. Three companies survived the wave of competition and eventually merged to become the Computing-Tabulating-Recording Co. (C-T-R). Under the leadership of Thomas Watson Sr., C-T-R transformed into a high-tech data-processing enterprise known as IBM. The name change to International Business Machines Corp. (IBM) in 1924 signaled the grander purpose and international aspirations of the company. Today, IBM remains an iconic and influential corporation in the field of technology.
