20 years of Mars Express

A new mosaic of Mars, created using data from ESA’s Mars Express spacecraft, provides a detailed and colorful view of the planet’s surface. The mosaic was made by gathering 90 images at higher altitudes and piecing them together to form a full global view of Mars. The images were color-referenced to a high-altitude color model, revealing a richer and more accurate color view than ever before. The mosaic also reveals the diverse composition of Mars, with dark basaltic sands, clay deposits, and sulphate minerals visible. Mars Express has been orbiting Mars for 20 years, and its images have greatly enhanced our understanding of the planet. The mission is planned to continue until at least the end of 2026.
