A DIY photographer built his own full-frame camera and open-sourced the project

Wenting Zhang, a Boston-based engineer and photographer, has been working on a DIY camera project for years. His Sitina S1 camera features a 10MP CCD sensor and electronic shutter, making it unique in today’s market dominated by CMOS sensors. Zhang’s project allows flexibility to use existing lenses, and he has open-sourced the entire project on GitLab for others to build upon. He designed and built circuit boards, integrated various components, and created his custom software. Despite being a hobby project, Zhang’s camera provides insight into the complexity and creativity required to develop a modern consumer camera. Zhang hopes to make his camera available as a kit in the future.
