This image showcases blue spheres representing the various amounts of water on Earth in relation to the planet’s size. It may seem surprising how small the water spheres appear, but this is due to the vast volume of the Earth. The largest sphere represents all of Earth’s water, including oceans, ice caps, lakes, rivers, and even the water in living beings. The sphere of liquid fresh water is much smaller, with most of it being groundwater out of reach for humans. The tiny bubble over Atlanta symbolizes the fresh water in lakes and rivers, our main sources of daily water. Lake Michigan might seem bigger, but the water sphere is almost 35 miles high.
