Ansel is an open-source photo-editing software designed for digital artists who want to achieve their own interpretation of raw digital photographs. It draws inspiration from Ansel Adams, a renowned pianist and photographer, who pushed the boundaries of darkroom craftsmanship to serve his photographic vision. Unlike other solutions that automate the editing process, Ansel puts the artists back in control by providing them with precise and nuanced image manipulation tools. It allows users to manage their photo collections, edit raw photographs non-destructively, and export the final results in common file formats. Ansel also offers various color and tonal manipulation features, as well as specialized tools for perspective correction and censoring. Developed by Aurélien Pierre, Ansel aims to provide a better alternative to Darktable by focusing on performance, stability, and user feedback. It is released under the GNU/GPL v3 license and is actively developed to improve the open-source imaging options.
