Apple reverses course on death of Progressive Web Apps in EU

Apple has faced backlash in the EU over changes to Progressive Web Apps, which led to complaints from users and restoration of the previous functionality in iOS 17.3. The move came after Apple received numerous requests from consumers to keep the feature. Additionally, Apple announced changes to comply with the European Union Digital Markets Act by notarizing all iOS apps, reducing the standard commission to 17%, and introducing a Core Technology Fee for apps not sold through the App Store. These changes have sparked controversy, with Spotify CEO Daniel Ek and Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney criticizing them as “extortion” and “hot garbage.”
