Arm’s Cortex A510: Two Kids in a Trench Coat

Arm’s Cortex A510 is a significant upgrade to the 5-series lineup, breaking away from the two-wide, in-order trend of previous “little” cores. The A510 is a 3-wide in-order core that introduces various improvements, such as a merged core configuration that allows two A510 cores to share resources. Additionally, the A510 has a larger L1 instruction cache, improved branch prediction, enhanced load/store memory accesses, and a more efficient shared floating-point unit. Overall, the A510 offers better performance and area efficiency compared to its predecessors. The A510 is used in Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, running at clock speeds up to 1.8 GHz.
