Artificio de Juanelo

In the 16th century, the incredible Artificio de Juanelo was built by Juanelo Turriano in Toledo, Spain, to supply the city with water. It utilized two water wheels to lift water from the Tagus River to the Alcazar. Despite challenges in construction due to various obstacles and the death of Charles V, Turriano persevered and managed to efficiently deliver water to the city. However, disputes over payment and maintenance eventually led to the machines falling into disrepair by 1639. The innovative design of the device allowed it to raise water to unprecedented heights, making it a remarkable engineering marvel at the time.
