At least 1k birds died from colliding with one Chicago building in one day

Approximately 1,000 birds tragically died in Chicago after colliding with a glass-covered building during their migration. This is the highest number of bird strikes recorded in a single day by the Chicago Bird Collision Monitors. The carcasses of various songbirds were found within a 1.5-mile radius of McCormick Place, a convention center covered with glass. The true extent of the impact on the bird population will become clearer as more birds are recovered. Bird collisions with windows are a common occurrence, especially during migration periods, and various factors such as weather conditions and light pollution contribute to the problem. Each year, billions of birds die from collisions, highlighting the need for action to protect these invaluable creatures. In Chicago, efforts are being made to reduce bird fatalities by turning off building lights and implementing bird-friendly design measures. However, there is still a long way to go in addressing this issue.
