Austria rail operator OeBB unveils new night trains

Austrian rail operator OeBB has revealed its new generation of sleeper trains, which have been designed in response to increasing demand for environmentally friendly alternatives to air and road travel. Night trains are experiencing a resurgence in Europe due to their low carbon footprint, prompting operators to invest in new rolling stock. OeBB, a state-owned company that operates 20 rail routes across Europe, aims to double its overnight passengers from 1.5 million to three million by 2030. The first of the new trains, featuring a modern design and improved facilities, will begin service on December 10, with further routes to be added between 2021 and 2028. The move towards sustainable travel has been praised by Environment Minister Leonore Gewessler.
