AWS acquires Talen’s 960MW nuclear data center campus in Pennsylvania

AWS has acquired Talen Energy’s 960MW Cumulus data center campus in Pennsylvania, located at a nuclear power station. The deal was worth $650 million, with $350 million paid upfront and $300 million to be released upon development milestones. Talen Energy sees this as a valuable move that creates value through the sale of clean power from the Susquehanna nuclear plant. AWS plans to develop a 960MW data center campus on the site, with power commitments increasing over time. Talen Energy has a separate business focusing on digital currency mining, with TeraWulf partnering on the cryptomining side of the project.
