Boeing has now lost $1.1B on Starliner, with no crew flight in sight

Boeing’s Starliner program continues to face challenges, with the company reporting additional losses and NASA withholding discussion of potential launch dates for the crewed spacecraft. Serious issues with the Starliner were identified just weeks before a scheduled launch in July, leading to delays and financial losses. Boeing’s Defense, Space, & Security division reported a loss of $527 million in the second quarter due to the Starliner program. NASA officials provided an update, stating that work is ongoing, but there is still more to be done. The launch timetable remains uncertain, and it is now possible that SpaceX will deliver its eighth crew mission for NASA before Boeing’s first operational mission.
