The author’s competitive spirit led them to create a project where they successfully booted Linux off of a Google Drive root without the help of a second machine. They navigated the complex Linux boot process, utilized FUSE programs, and customized the initramfs using Dracut. Facing challenges with slow performance, symlinks, and permissions, they persevered to mount Google Drive and overcome obstacles. After testing on virtual machines, they accomplished their goal on real hardware, creating their Cloud Native Computer. Despite the unconventional nature of the project, it showcases innovative problem-solving and determination.
