Brandon Gilles Dies from Long-Covid, Electrical Engineer and Spatial AI Pioneer

Brandon Gilles, the co-founder and CEO of Luxonis, passed away on August 3, 2023, at the age of 37 due to Long-COVID. He was a passionate electrical engineer with a love for robotics and artificial intelligence. Gilles graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder and had an impressive career working as a software engineer at Ubiquiti Networks. In 2019, Gilles co-founded Luxonis, a company focused on spatial AI and computer vision technology. Their flagship product, OAK, is a series of cameras used for various applications. Gilles was also an avid blogger and researcher, sharing his insights on spatial AI and computer vision. Despite battling Long-COVID for three years, he remained optimistic and continued to lead Luxonis. He is survived by his wife, Briana Gilles, and their two children. His wife described him as her best friend and praised his accomplishments. His co-founders also expressed their grief and determination to continue his dream of making spatial AI and computer vision accessible to all.
