Brawshot – Basic temporal denoise for videos in BRAW format

brawshot is a tool that processes videos in Blackmagic RAW format with a temporal lowpass filter to reduce noise in low-light environments, creating a virtual “very long exposure time” for videos. The algorithm computes moving averages of successive video frames to reduce random image sensor noise, making extra gain feasible for improved brightness. It is GPU accelerated via OpenGL and outputs noise-reduced standard 8bit images. The tool requires a Blackmagic Design camera, Linux/AMD64, Blackmagic RAW SDK, and a graphics card with modern OpenGL support. A unique feature is the creator’s quest to record the aurora with an unsuitable camera. JPEG compression is used for output due to speed and low storage requirements.
