Building a ‘liturgical lightbulb’, bringing the Calendar to life

Pharus is a software that allows users to build a “liturgical lightbulb” that changes color according to the Calendar of the Anglican Church of Australia. This project came about when the author, a theological student training to become an Anglican priest, noticed the changing lighting in a cathedral and decided to bring that concept into their own home. The author created the software as a fun distraction during their clinical pastoral education, and it has since become an important part of their daily worship. The liturgical lightbulb turns off on Good Friday at 3pm and turns back on at sunrise on Easter Day. The author is open to adding support for calendars from other denominations and provinces within the Anglican Communion. Users interested in setting up this project will need some Linux skills and a zigbee2mqtt setup. The author is willing to assist anyone who encounters obstacles.
