Collective letter to unity from game development companies

We, the game development industry, are deeply passionate about our craft and have invested countless years in shaping an industry that has a global impact. Unity has played a major role in inspiring us to create immersive worlds and has empowered independent developers to bring their visions to life. However, the recent announcement from Unity to introduce installation-dependent fees effective January 1, 2024, without industry consultation, is a decision that jeopardizes both small and large game developers. Unity’s claim that this will only affect 10% of the industry is misleading and completely false. This decision blindsided us and puts hundreds of studios at risk. It comes at a time when our industry is already facing challenges such as tightening profit margins, heightened competition, and rising costs. This decision impacts not just developers, but artists, designers, marketers, and producers as well. We have always celebrated Unity’s innovations, but we were left out of the conversation on this monumental decision. As a collective of game development companies, we are forced to turn off all IronSource and Unity Ads monetization in our projects until these changes are reevaluated. We urge others to do the same and sign
