Two Iowa police officers are suing a teenager they arrested last year after the body-cam footage of the allegedly unwarranted arrest he posted on YouTube went viral. The officers claimed “emotional distress” and are now suing for defamation and invasion of privacy. The teenager had sued the Newton Police Department earlier this year, alleging false arrest and civil rights violations. The body-cam footage showed the officers pulling him over for not dimming his high beams and accusing him of being intoxicated and smoking cannabis. However, a breathalyzer test showed no alcohol in his system, and he was released. Some of the officer’s statements caused the judge to allow defamation and invasion of privacy claims to proceed.
