Daniel Ellsberg has died

Daniel Ellsberg, the military analyst who leaked the Pentagon Papers that exposed the deceitful actions of the U.S. government during the Vietnam War, has died at the age of 92. The Pentagon Papers, which detailed deceptions by successive presidents, bypassing Congress and misleading the American people, led to illegal countermeasures by the White House and ultimately played a role in the Watergate scandal and the disgrace and resignation of President Nixon. Ellsberg was charged with espionage but the case was thrown out due to government misconduct, including illegal wiretapping and a break-in at his psychiatrist’s office. Ellsberg continued to oppose war and advocate for disarmament throughout his life.
