Daniel Kahneman has died

Daniel Kahneman, a Nobel Prize-winning Israeli-American psychologist, revolutionized the understanding of human decision-making through his research on how people rely on cognitive biases rather than logic. He debunked the idea of “economic man,” showing that individuals engage in quick, faulty judgments. Kahneman collaborated with Amos Tversky, with whom he co-founded behavioral economics. Their experiments illustrated various cognitive biases, such as the framing effect and conjunction fallacy. Kahneman’s work extended to policy-making, baseball scouting, and medicine. Throughout his life, he encountered personal tragedies, including surviving the Holocaust and the loss of his father. Despite a complicated relationship with Tversky, they reconciled before Tversky’s death. Kahneman married fellow psychologist Anne Treisman and later lived with Tversky’s widow. His legacy continues through his best-selling book “Thinking, Fast and Slow,” which delves into the complex nature of human thought.
