ECC RAM on AMD Ryzen 7000 Desktop CPUs

AMD’s Ryzen desktop CPUs have long been known for their support of error-corrected memory (ECC RAM). However, with the launch of the Ryzen 7000 “Raphael” CPUs and the new Socket AM5, ECC support seems to have disappeared. However, a user on the ASRock forums claimed to have found a way to enable ECC RAM on AM5 motherboards. They tested it on an ASRock motherboard and reported errors being detected by the OS. The user decided to try it on their own ASRock motherboard and successfully got ECC RAM working. They confirmed its functionality through Linux commands and found that the ECC capability is determined by the memory controller. They also discussed how to query the memory controller on AMD processors and provided instructions for Linux users. Overall, ECC RAM is possible on Ryzen 7000 CPUs with ASRock motherboards, and the Linux kernel messages can be relied upon to indicate ECC functionality.
