Everything that uses configuration files should report where they’re located

The author argues that all programs that use configuration files should have an obvious command line way of reporting where these files are located. As a system administrator, they deal with various programs that have different locations for configuration files, making it difficult to remember where they are located. The author suggests that program locations should be reported in the standard help output or that there should be a special way to find out. They also note that programs should fully expand things like environment variables when reporting locations. The author gives a semi-honorable mention to programs that report this information but make it difficult to find.
