Fed court rules for retired engineer told by state to not talk about math

In a recent ruling, Chief Judge Richard Myers has declared that the state violated the First Amendment by restricting retired engineer Wayne Nutt from sharing his opinions about engineering without a state license. Nutt, who used his vast experience as an engineer to provide his insights on the designs of public works, was told by the NC Board of Examiners and Surveyors that he could be charged with a misdemeanor unless he obtained a professional engineer’s license. Nutt expressed his satisfaction with the ruling, stating that it is not only a victory for him but also for others who have been denied the chance to share their expertise. The full opinion can be found online.
