First known fractal molecule

Scientists have discovered the first known fractal protein, which appears to be an evolutionary accident. Fractals are complex geometric shapes made up of smaller structures that resemble the whole, found in nature like snowflakes and river networks. This newly found protein, a Sierpiński triangle fractal, is an enzyme used by cyanobacteria and was stumbled upon by accident. The structure of the protein creates beautiful triangles with voids in the center. Researchers found that the fractal structure appeared quickly after a few mutations and suggest it may have evolved by chance. This unique discovery opens up the possibility of finding more molecular fractals in the future.
