First ‘tooth regrowth medicine’ to be tested in Japan from Sept. 2024

Researchers at Kyoto University Hospital are set to begin clinical trials for the world’s first “tooth regrowth medicine” in September. The medication, once proven safe, aims to help those born without a full set of teeth. Lead by Katsu Takahashi, the team hopes to have the medicine available for sale by 2030. The treatment deactivates a protein inhibiting tooth growth, potentially offering a solution for those with congenital tooth deficiencies, as well as those with cavities or injuries. The research is groundbreaking and offers hope for those suffering from tooth loss or absence. The medication has shown promising results in animal studies, with no major side effects reported.
