French supermarket chain, Carrefour, is pressuring suppliers such as Nestlé, PepsiCo, and Unilever to reduce their prices by placing price warnings on products that have shrunk in size but cost more. The company is aiming to rally consumer support as negotiations between retailers and major brands approach. Carrefour CEO Alexandre Bompard has criticized consumer goods companies for not cooperating in efforts to lower prices, a sentiment echoed by French finance minister Bruno Le Maire. The shrinkflation warnings currently only apply to Carrefour stores in France and will continue until suppliers agree to price cuts. There is potential for the initiative to expand to other goods, but not to other countries.
