Even their representative director faced serious allegations of sexual abuse in 2019. Attempts to revive the company with help from Khara, the studio now in possession of Evangelion rights, failed due to mounting debts. Gainax expressed regret to fans for its closure after 40 years of operation, leaving behind an uncertain amount of liabilities.
