Glass Antenna Turns windows into 5G Base Stations

Since the rollout of 5G in 2018 or 2019, fifth-generation wireless networks have grown worldwide, offering lower latency but requiring more base stations. Japanese companies have developed transparent glass antennas allowing windows to serve as base stations shared by multiple carriers. The glass antenna, created by AGC and NTT Docomo, is the world’s first of its kind. Using transparent conductive materials, the antenna ensures smooth radio wave transmission through windows. These antennas can help expand 5G coverage and are also being used in automobiles to reduce signal drops. The technology is a game-changer in improving 5G infrastructure sharing and coverage expansion.
