Google Research has introduced a new custom syntax for analytical SQL queries, aiming to address the usability issues of standard SQL, such as the confusing order of clauses in a query. This new syntax, called Pipe query syntax, is being implemented in Google’s open-source ZetaSQL project and offers a more intuitive approach to structuring SQL queries. The Google Research paper detailing this initiative was released in PDF format, prompting frustration from some users due to the lack of accessibility on mobile devices and difficulty in copying and pasting content. However, using Google’s Gemini Pro model, the PDF was successfully converted into neatly styled semantic HTML, showcasing the potential for better sharing of information on the web.
