Gordon Freeman at the Olympic Games

In this blog article, we delve into the controversial debate surrounding whether accelerated backhopping (ABH) can provide a competitive advantage in the 100m dash. ABH is a bug in the Source engine movement code that allows players to move faster than intended. The code for ABH involves various calculations to determine the player’s speed boost. However, a flaw in the code leads to the player accelerating far beyond the intended speed limit. We examine the IAAF Book of Rules to determine how ABH fits into the regulations for the 100m dash. Based on our analysis, we propose that ABH should be explicitly banned in competitions.
