Grail wrongly told hundreds of people they might have cancer

Biotechnology company, Grail, has apologized for wrongly notifying 400 customers who purchased its cancer-detecting blood test Galleri that they may have the disease. The company claimed the error was caused by a vendor, PWN Health, which had incorrectly configured its patient engagement platform. Grail’s test is billed as a first-of-its-kind test, which can detect a marker for over 50 different types of cancer, including some that are not part of routine procedures, such as cancers of the gallbladder or pancreas. Both Grail and PWN Health said they had contacted all affected customers within 36 hours of discovering the mistake.
