Hacking the Book8088 for better accuracy

The Book8088 is a unique machine that mimics a 1980s computer but in a laptop form factor. Despite some compatibility issues, the Book8088 has promising specs, including a real 8088 CPU and socketed CRTC chip. However, the absence of DRAM refresh in the system affects its compatibility with software that relies on the exact speed of the CPU. The infamous Kefrens Bars effect in the 8088MPH demo doesn’t work on the Book8088 due to the absence of DRAM refresh. The author goes on to explain how they physically fixed the Book8088 to enable DRAM refresh, allowing the demo to run smoothly.
