Health industry responds to data privacy crackdown

Healthcare companies are getting caught out by data privacy crackdowns which are making online marketing increasingly complicated. The Federal Trade Commission is leading regulation, fining telehealth firms for violating customers’ privacy. The crackdown could make it harder for consumers to find primary care and medical services online. The shift is impacting industry numbers: from January to March 2023, telemedicine firms only spent 25% of what they spent on targeted Facebook and Google ads during the same period last year. Meanwhile, nonprofit health systems halved their spending year-on-year.
