High school student allegedly uses device to turn off nearby iPhones

Last month, a strange incident occurred at Washington-Liberty High School that disrupted classes and prompted a police investigation. It was discovered that a student had used an electronic device that caused nearby iPhones to turn off. The police have identified the student involved and determined that there is no ongoing threat to the community. Although no charges have been sought at this time, the police are continuing to investigate the incident. Arlington Public Schools shared a message from the police to the W-L community, urging anyone whose cell phone turned off on that day to report it. The exact device used by the student has not been revealed, but the police have shared general cybersecurity tips to help prevent such incidents in the future. This incident adds to a series of lockdowns and threats that Arlington schools have experienced recently, including gun-related threats and hoax calls to 911.
