History of Hangul

Koreans use the efficient and scientifically designed alphabet Hangul. Created under King Sejong during the Chosun Dynasty, Hangul has received praise for its excellence. The first Korean alphabet was proclaimed in 1446 as “the correct sounds for the instruction of the people.” King Sejong, known as one of Korea’s greatest rulers, was respected for his benevolence, diligence, and scholarly talents. He lamented that common people could not read or write due to the complexity of Chinese characters used by the educated. King Sejong’s efforts to improve literacy and communication are highlighted in this web content.
