For the past seven years, I’ve been using Home Assistant to manage my smart home devices, starting with just lights in a small apartment. As my setup grew more complex with custom sensors and automations, I faced challenges running it on a Raspberry Pi due to database limitations. Moving everything to a VM on my home server with MySQL and InfluxDB solved the issue. The recent move to Adaptive Lighting from Flux has significantly improved color temperature adjustments throughout the day. Leveraging an AI coding assistant, Cursor, to handle YAML configurations has been a game-changer. Next up, I plan to upgrade my radiators with smart TRVs for better room temperature control.
