LFBOTs are among the brightest visible-light events in the universe and usually occur in star-forming regions within galaxies. However, the recent discovery, nicknamed “the Finch,” was located far from any host galaxy. Astronomers are unsure of the exact cause of LFBOTs, with theories ranging from supernovae to neutron star collisions, but more research is needed to determine the true nature of these mysterious explosions.
