Inkbase: Programmable Ink (2022)

Our lab aims to create powerful tools for thought, with a focus on end-user programming and the success of spreadsheets. Spreadsheets allow for gradual enrichment, supporting dynamic complexity over time through incremental building of formulas and labels. They enable programming in the moment by providing live, reactive, declarative formulas that treat data and formulas equally. Despite the popularity of spreadsheets, many still prefer pen and paper for its flexibility, immediacy, intimacy, informality, and connection to human life. The Inkbase project explores the concept of a programmable sketchbook, allowing users to program while sketching, unlocking new research questions and use cases.
