Intel’s latest Lion Cove P-Core continues the legacy of the P6 architecture from the Pentium Pro to Sandy Bridge. The major change in Lion Cove is the split scheduler, with separate integer and vector units. This splitting improves power efficiency and simplifies core design. Cache hierarchy changes include a new L1 cache for better latency. Surprisingly, Hyperthreading is optional in Lunar Lake, allowing for customization for different products. Other improvements in Lion Cove include front-end enhancements and widening the core to 8 wide. Overall, Lion Cove offers a 14% performance improvement and a focus on customizable design for future optimizations. Join our Patreon or Discord to learn more.
