Japan’s Smart Lander for Investigating Moon (SLIM) has impressively woken up once again after three lunar nights, much to everyone’s surprise. Defying the odds, SLIM managed to take a picture of the lunar surface using its navigation camera, despite some malfunctioning electronics and battery cells. While the lander lacks heaters to keep its electronics warm, it has somehow maintained main functionality after its unexpected extended stay on the Moon. Originally designed to last only until the end of its first lunar day, SLIM has surpassed all expectations and continues to baffle scientists with its resilience. Will it survive a fourth lunar night? Only time will tell.
