Longtime Dungeons & Dragons game designer Jim Ward passed away at 72. He began his career in 1976, creating Metamorphosis Alpha, TSR’s first science-fantasy RPG. Ward worked on various modules and supplements, co-creating the 1988 Pool of Radiance video game. Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1989, he later designed games for Dragon Ball Z, The Wheel of Time, Tomb Raider, and Babylon 5, co-founding Fast Forward Entertainment. Ward’s legacy inspires future writers and gamers. “A sad day, indeed,” wrote Hyperborea’s Jeffrey Talanian. His eulogy talks about his lasting impact. Contributing Editor Justin Carter remembers Ward’s kindness and generosity.
