Kyle Vogt, co-founder and former CEO of autonomous vehicle company Cruise, has resigned. The news comes amid a period of controversy for Cruise, after the California Department of Motor Vehicles suspended its permits to operate self-driving vehicles following an incident where a pedestrian was hit and dragged by one of its robotaxis. Mo Elshenawy, executive vice president of engineering at Cruise, will now serve as president and CTO of the company. Jon McNeill, a member of GM’s board and former COO of Lyft, has been appointed vice chairman of the Cruise board. Vogt stated in an email that Cruise is “still just getting started,” suggesting a bright future for the company.
